The Minister Visits Cardiff - September 2009
he Minister came to inspect the enabling work recently started to prepare for the building of Phase Two – the decamp village. Patients and services will be transferred into this “village” so that the Children’s Hospital can run as normal while Phase Two is built.
The £4 million programme of enabling work will be funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and will include the relocation of services currently being delivered on the proposed phase two site and the demolition of the current buildings.
In addition, the Welsh Assembly Government is supporting the NHS as it works on the latest plans for the development. When approved, the NHS will prepare final, detailed plans for further consideration.
While visiting the site, the Minister met with Noah’s Ark Appeal Chairman Lyn Jones, and Appeal supporters and trustees. She spoke at length to Lyn about her feelings on the unofficial beginning of Phase Two, saying, “I have made clear that I am committed to the development of the second phase of the Children's Hospital and have underlined this commitment by providing substantial support in the current financial year from within my capital budget. The Trust tells me that the business case is progressing well and I expect to receive it shortly for consideration.
"I am pleased to visit the site of the proposed development to see the ongoing enabling work. This will ensure that major work on the development can start quickly once I have seen and approved the business cases."

Smashing South Hook - May 2009
South Hook made a £10,000 contribution to the hospital’s second phase, an exciting development that will incorporate the new paediatric surgical wing, a large outpatients department and a new critical care unit to treat children in need of high dependency or intensive care.
The £10,000 will go towards the funding of a state-of-the-art ‘open’ MRI scanner. Parents will be able to lie next to their child during the scan and music and colours will make the experience a child-friendly one. The Children’s Hospital for Wales will be the first children’s hospital in the UK to have such a scanner.
Lyn Jones, Chairman of the Noah’s Ark Appeal, on his visit to South Hook explained,
“We are looking forward to the day when the Children’s Hospital for Wales is not just completed, but has the very best equipment available for the sick children who come for treatment from across Wales. We are delighted to receive such a magnificent sum of money from South Hook to help us achieve this objective. Over the years we have received wonderful support from the people of Pembrokeshire and it gives us great pleasure to know that this support continues. We thank all at South Hook for choosing the Noah’s Ark Appeal and look forward to working with you in the future. Your help is truly appreciated.”
