TEACHERS have cycled 150 miles in a day to celebrate their school’s anniversary.
Steve Elmes and Tom Biebrach made the trek from Howell’s School in Llandaff, Cardiff, to Brecon.
The dynamic duo raised money for the Noah’s Ark Appeal, the school’s chosen charity.
Howell’s is hoping to raise a combined £20,000 to create a new garden for the Children’s Hospital of Wales at the Heath.
Staff and pupils have raised around £4,000 so far, thanks to programme sales at their spring gala concert in St David’s Hall.
History teacher Steve Elmes, 46, from Heath, Cardiff, said: “When the principal, Mrs Sally Davis, asked us to try to think of 150 ways to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the school, cycling 150 miles in one day seemed like a good idea.”
Head of geography Tom Biebrach, 36, who regularly cycles to the school in Llandaff from his home in Bridgend, added: “Our families, friends, colleagues, students and their parents have been very generous in supporting us with sponsorship which will contribute to the fund to build a garden at the Children’s Hospital for Wales.”
