Father of two Steve Williams has scaled new heights in his fundraising efforts as he climbed Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc raising over £600 for the Noah’s Ark Appeal. Mont Blanc sits on the French and Italian boarder and rises to a lofty 4,810m (15,782ft) and after a week of acclimatising and preparation Steve and his climbing partner were the first to summit on Friday 25th June.
A 28 hour non stop accent, battling temperatures of minus 25 degrees is treacherous enough however Steve faced the dreaded altitude sickness as he continued to climb with the last 400m taking twice the usual time as the sickness meant he felt drunk, could hardly speak and couldn’t control his body temperature.
We are very pleased to say Steve made it all the way up…and all the way down again safely and posed for a photo at the top whilst taking in the stunning scenery.
On his return to Wales, Steve said “This was without doubt the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, however it so was rewarding. I have always wanted to climb Mont Blanc and chose the Noah’s Ark Appeal as I wanted to raise money for children in Wales and it is such a worthwhile cause.”
