Hopping to Raise a Lot of Money
Members of staff at the Noah's Ark Appeal recently decided to take the slogan from the charity's latest campaign literally, and committed to 'Get Fit, Get Healthy, Get Giving!'
But stepping out on a treadmill wasn't an option for us here at the Noah's Ark office - we were determined to have fun as well as get fit, by taking part in a sponsored space-hopper relay.
Together the four of us - Roz Robinson (Community Relations Manager), Siân Owen (Fundraising Officer), Sue Hogan (Receptionist & Fundraising Support Officer) and Holly Thomas (PA to Director and Chairman of Trustees) - re-lived our childhoods when we completed a circuit of Roath Park Lake in Cardiff, on space hoppers.
“We wanted to do our bit for the campaign, and managed to raise nearly £300 towards the £300,000 total needed for the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at the Children’s Hospital and we were trying to think of something that would be fun. Then I had the idea of a space hopper relay,” said Roz.
But although a space hopper relay sounds like a walk in the park, completing the course was quite a feat, as anyone who’s ever been on a space hopper will know. “It was basically like doing a few miles of squats,” said Sue. “My thighs are so sore now!” she added.
