Dorian Ellis Jones Memorial Sail

Family and friends of Dorian Ellis Jones, who was tragically killed in an accident, have paid tribute to his memory by sailing around Ireland to raise money for charitable causes.

Starting out from Cardiff Bay, on the morning of January 8th 2005, the crew travelled around the Irish coastline.
The crew's trusty sailing vessel, 'The Keewaydin' was an 80 foot trawler that was built in 1913 and converted to a yacht in 1963.

Explaining his reasons for embarking on the challenge in memory of his youngest son, Kevin Jones said, "The amount of money needed a slight risk factor and a physically enduring challenge to make the sponsorship worthwhile.  This challenge gave the crew a feel-good factor, knowing that the money we raise will be so worthwhile to people in Wales."

The challenge raised £1750 for the Noah's Ark Appeal, which was gratefully received by Noah's Ark Appeal representative, Dr Glyn Jones.
