A Big Thank-you to Pembrokeshire

The Noah’s Ark Appeal has thanked the people of Pembrokeshire for their tremendous hard work in raising £160,000 for the Children’s Hospital for Wales.  At a presentation held at the County Council, Chairman of Pembrokeshire’s fundraising committee, Mr Malcolm Green, was on hand to accept a certificate and limited edition print of the Children’s Hospital to commemorate the committee’s efforts.

Struck in to action by the revelation that Wales was the only country in Europe without a dedicated children’s hospital, the group of Pembrokeshire fundraisers felt compelled to join forces in order to change the situation.  The committee, made up of local people from all walks of life, organised a series fundraising events, from concerts to abseils, to raise the much needed funds. The money raised has funded an eight bed day unit at the oncology wards at the Children’s Hospital for Wales.

“The oncology wards have been designed with a child’s needs specifically in mind”, explained Appeal Director, Suzanne Mainwaring. “The decoration is bright and colourful and the playrooms are equipped with interactive games and art. It is a world away from the clinical and unwelcoming environment that would usually be associated with a hospital ward.”

Ms Mainwaring and Chairman of Trustees of the Appeal, Mr Lyn Jones, were joined by the Lord Mayor at the Civic Centre, as they personally thanked Malcolm Green and all those who helped to raise such a magnificent amount.

“The support of the people of Pembrokeshire will make a big difference to local children,” added Ms Mainwaring.  “They have helped to ensure that children from across Wales will be treated in a world-class facility for generations to come. We are overwhelmed by their incredible generosity.”
