Len Ashurst Testimonial Match: Cardiff City v Birmingham City

Cardiff City have kindly agreed to host the above match in recognition of Len Ashurst's services to the professional game and Welsh football in particular.

Len has decided that having lived in the area for some considerable time he wishes to support the Noah's Ark Appeal for The Children's Hospital in Wales and so will be splitting the proceeds of the match with us. Len Ashurst is well respected and has served the game well both as a manager/coach and more recently as an administrator and this year will celebrate a lifetime in the professional game.

Len, Liverpool born (10/3/1939) joined the Merseyside club in 1953 on the groundstaff, was released by them and then between 1957-1971 played over 550 league and Cup games for Sunderland. Len gained 7 England youth caps and 3 England under 23 caps during his playing career. He then managed Hartlepool, Gillingham, Sheffield Wednesday, Newport County, Cardiff City and Sunderland as well as having experience coaching abroad.

For the past 7 years Len has been heavily involved with the F.A.Premier League Academy Department overseeing the development of the Academy system throughout the country and this year on the 30th July will celebrate 50 years in the professional game.

The match will take place on Monday 17th May 2004 at Ninian Park. Kick Off is at 7.45 p.m.
