A Close-Knit Community

When Baby Carys, the daughter of a former colleague, was taken ill Bethan Evans of Llanybri was keen to do something to help.

Bethan decided to raise money for the Children’s Hospital for Wales by knitting Eskimo looped scarves.  When she started knitting in May 2005, Bethan didn’t expect a great volume of orders but by September the demand  for her hand-knitted neck-warmers was so high that she had to enlist help from her family!

Delighted with the success of her charitable venture Bethan said, “I would like to thank everyone who bought a scarf, especially Llanddarog primary School who bought so many scarves that they even named me ‘Niti Noa’.  I am also very grateful to Howell Jenkins of Garems who gave me a discount on the wool and, of course, to my mother and sister who gave up so much time to help me knit the scarves.

Bethan was thrilled that her wooly fundraising idea raised an amazing £400 for the Appeal.  “I am so pleased that I was able to do something to help other children like Carys,” said Bethan.  “I wish baby Carys and her family health and happiness for the future.”
