Lifetime Champion of the Community
Lyn Jones, Chairman of Trustees at the Noah's Ark Appeal has recently been awarded with the South Wales Echo Lifetime Champion of the Community Award.
Lyn has worked tirelessly for the Noah's Ark Appeal and many other local charities and good causes.
Having campaigned for over ten years for a children's hospital for Wales, Lyn gladly took on the role of Chairman of Trustees at the Noah's Ark Appeal when the NHS and National Assembly for Wales finally gave the hospital the go ahead.
Lyn has worked tirelessly in pursuit of his dream and has made a seven day a week commitment to the Appeal attending events and meetings across Wales. His efforts are wholly unpaid and he does not even claim petrol expenses, seeing this as part of his contribution to the new hospital.
During his thirty years as a prison officer in Cardiff, Lyn ran a Saturday morning club for the disabled within the prison, a voluntary and unpaid activity.
Lyn was Chairman of the Variety Club for more than ten years and worked for a time as Sunshine Coach Officer providing coach transport for many disabled schools. He drove a project to build a holiday home for the disabled in Lampeter and maintains a close involvement with the project.
Lyn also served for two years as Chairman of the St John's Council for the St John's Ambulance Brigade and remains a member of the order of St John. In 1995 he was made MBE for services to charity.
We are delighted that a man who has worked so hard and has given so much to the community has been awarded with this well deserved accolade of Lifetime Champion of the Community.
