Response to News from CLHB

The news from the Cardiff Local Health Board is the worst that we feared.

We remain thoroughly exasperated by the bureaucracy and obstacles that stand in the way of the completion of the Children’s Hospital for Wales. Whilst business cases and such are sent back and fore between Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and the many agencies such as Cardiff Local Health Board that have to be part of progress, more and more sick children and their families continue to suffer. Maybe a trip to the paediatric surgical wards would be a useful exercise for those that voted against helping these children.

When will those who guard the public purse realise that treating sick children in a proper environment is a priority for the majority of people in Cardiff and Wales? We remain unconvinced that Cardiff Health Board has any desire to do more than talk in vague terms about their support. We believe that their statement that the children’s hospital is a low priority speaks volumes about how much they really value the wishes of the public and the conditions for sick children. It’s more than high time that the government steps in and makes this hospital happen as clearly we cannot rely on its agencies.
