Children's Hospital for Wales Revealed

After decades of dreams and visions, the first Children's Hospital for Wales is to be revealed in all its glory. The dismantling of the scaffolding has started and on 6 May 2004, the founding Trustees of the Noah's Ark Appeal visited the site to witness the results of the campaign they started fourteen years ago.

Progress of the inside of the hospital is running on schedule and due to be complete by the end of the year. In a few months, we shall be able to see the final artwork and lighting designs that will transform a clinical building into a magical place for children.

Parents, hospital staff, community groups and many children were involved in choosing the winning hospital design.

Lyn Jones, Chairman of Trustees spoke of the Trustees' emotion in seeing the Children's Hospital in front of their eyes. He said that the building was something that many had dreamed about for a long time; the new hospital has a very special identity with its colourful façade including cedar cladding and portholes to represent a boat. The sails are the only design feature yet to be installed.

Representatives from the media enjoyed a short tour inside of the hospital to view the marvellous progress of this historic building.
