Whitchurch High School Pupils Raise £30,000 for the Noah's Ark Appeal
Sixth form pupils from Whitchurch High School raised £30,000 in sponsorship for the Children's Hospital for Wales Appeal by accompanying Ian Botham on his epic trek from Machynlleth to Cardiff in April last year.
Pupils from the school raised money through a variety of fundraising activities, including a sponsored walk at the school.
Each of the nine sixth formers who each completed one leg of Ian Botham's walk and Jill Manning, Deputy Head of the Sixth Form at the school visited the children's wards at the University Hospital of Wales on 21 May, in order to present the proceeds of their fundraising. Welsh singing and TV star, Max Boyce, received the cheque on behalf of the Noah's Ark Appeal.
Sixth former, Cathryn Fenlon, who walked with Ian from Carmarthen to Swansea said, "We had such a great time with Ian and the crew who supported us all the way. It was an experience that none of us will ever forget, especially the incredible pace at which Ian walked!"
A fitting tribute for all of their fundraising efforts, the Appeal confirmed that a room in the new hospital will be named after the school.
G Stanley Thomas, Chairman of the Noah's Ark Appeal said "I understand that Jill is busy recruiting sixth formers froma number of schools to join Ian on his Valleys Walk in October. We very much look forward to having them with us again."
