Some members of Only Men Aloud with patients from the Children's Hospital for Wales

The inaugural Cardiff Musical Festival held in September 2011 raised a wonderful £1000 for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity.  David Mahoney, Festival Director made a return visit to the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales to hand over the cheque to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity Chairman Lyn Jones.

Prior to the Festival David and fellow members  Dan Phillips, Wyn Davies and Craig Yates of the Classical Brit Award winning choir Only Men Aloud  visited the Children’s Hospital for Wales to meet patients and learn about the development of Phase Two. The reception of the hospital was packed as the four spontaneously treated everyone to a rousing rendition of Arblwydd Dyma Fi.

Whilst at the hospital Artistic Director of the festival, David Mahoney said; “It’s fantastic to see where all the money has gone, Phase One is just a superb facility for the kids and it just shows by looking at the older parts the importance of Phase Two for the kids; it’s very much needed I think.”

David spoke about the reasoning behind choosing the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity as one of the charities to be supported by the festival; “Well as a member of Only Men Aloud, the choir has been supporting the charity for a while now and I had been aware of their work before, so when it came to picking charities I thought it was a very worthwhile cause. We are using musical performance and bringing all the big names of the musical world of Cardiff and Wales together to perform for a worthy cause, I think the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity is an ideal charity for that.”

The festival aims to bring music to new audiences, making classical music and musical theatre accessible to those who may not have been exposed to it before.
